Abstract

A monograph dedicated to the person of the Bohemian King John the Blind gives a detailed view of his life and the period of his reign in the Kingdom of Bohemia and County of Luxembourg. The book follows John's political concepts including a wide range of his international political efforts, his aim to enlarge the territories under the rule of the dynasty of Luxembourg, as well as the changes in the way of rule in the Kingdom of Bohemia and new cultural influences.

The work also tries to depict the king's personality, his character traits and explain his course of action; it argues against the deep-rooted negative assessment of his rule. It brings an overview of the way of depiction of King John and his reign in the historiography since 14th century up until today.

The text is accompanied by numerous illustrations and several maps.
