Objective: The aim of our study was to determine the prevalence of gestational diabetes risk factors among pregnant women, to get an overview of the screening for gestational diabetes in the Czech Republic and to point out to the frequent mistakes in diagnostic process, which can lead to false negative or false positive results of the screening. Type of study: the patient questionnaire study Setting: Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, 1st Faculty of Medicine and General university Hospital, Apolinařska 18, Praha 2 Methods: We analyzed 958 anonymous questionnaires distributed among patients who attended antenatal counseling at the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, 1st Faculty of Medicine and General university Hospital from July 2015 to September 2015.
The mean age of participants was 32.0 +- 4.7 years. Statistical analysis was carried out using XLSTAT software.
Results: The most common risk factors among the respondents were the maternal age of 25 years or more (92.4%), family history of diabetes (23.3%) and BMI of more than 25 (21.3%). The first phase of the screening (fasting glycemia in the first trimester) was performed in 44.9% of women.
Overall 94.4% of women underwent the second phase of the screening (oral glucose tolerance test). The oGTT was performed completely by recommended standards in 16.3% of women Conclusion: Our study has shown, that the screening for GDM was not universally performed.
Deviations from the standard screening process were frequent.
