Diabetic neuropathy and cardiomyopathy

Abstract

Diabetic cardiomyopathy involves affection of the cardiomyocytes and sensory and autonomic innervation of the heart in diabetes mellitus patients. The most specific symptoms are systolic and diastolic dysfunction, left ventricular hypertrophy and affection of the heart innervation with normal coronary arteries.

This review contains the current basic knowledge about the pathophysiology and clinical manifestations of the disease.
