Abstract
This paper presents education of coaches of competitive sports that is offered at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, Charles University in Prague. Traditionally, education of coaches was intertwined with education of future teachers of Physical Education - it was a master degree study which enabled students to obtain both qualifications (PE teacher as well as a coach) and thus it demanded an all-round preparation, with possible specialization of coaches on one sport.
The paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of this system and presents possibilities of improvement for the future: a new conception of study, employing bachelor degrees for coaches only (personal coach focused on conditioning of all kinds of athletes and coach with a specialization in one sport) that aim to educate professionals in these areas.
