Practical comments on the diagnostics and therapy of diabetic foot syndrome

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |

Abstract

Diabetic foot syndrome is affected by approximately 5-10 % of patients with diabetes mellitus, one of the most common causes of diabetes hospitalization (diabetes mellitus is the main cause of hospitalization for people with diabetes mellitus, about 50 % of cases). Approximately about 70 % of non-traumatic lower leg amputations are performed in people with diabetes.

At 85%, ulceration that is potentially treatable is preceded by amputation of the lower limbs. A modern multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of diabetic foot syndrome coupled with consistent prevention and healing can reduce amputations by as much as 70-80%.
