Perioperative anti-thrombotic therapy

Abstract

Thromboembolic disease is a significant perioperative complication which influences morbidity and mortality, even though efficient prevention is available. Antithrombotic therapy includes pharmacoprophylaxis and mechanical thromboprophylaxis.

Optimal thrombotherapy management remains an issue, regarding both preventing thrombus formation in risky situations on one hand and preventing increased haemorrhage during and after surgery on the other. This is especially relevant in chronically anticoagulated or antiaggregated patients.
