Turkmenistan: Stability through the mobilization of the regime

Abstract

The text analyzes the potential for mobilization of population in authoritarian regimes (Turkmenistan in this case). Turkmenistan counts to stabilized regimes with little possibility for emergency of opposition movements be it built on civic or Islamic fundament.

The structure of the regimes is stabilized around the family of the leader as well as internal services. Both have (so far) enough power to oppress any potential centers of alternative power.
