Abstract

Monograph Pharmacology covers all fields of general and special pharmacology. The main focus of the monograph is to present a set of basic information covering all important areas of pharmacology. Conceptually, it is a combination of the classical pharmacological and pharmacotherapeutic approaches, which is expressed by the selection of authors who mostly come from the clinical workplaces.

General pharmacology contains 8 chapters. The general pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic processes that describe the movement of the drug in the body to its site of action are explained in detail, and thus contribute to the right choice of the dosage form and dosage regimen.

The general section also includes other important chapters, such as New Drug Development, Pharmacology, Specific Periods of Life, and Dependence on Addictive Substances. The special section is divided into 28 chapters mainly based on the clinical use of the therapeutic drugs.

Individual chapters deal in detail with pl1armaceutical drugs used in neurology, psychiatry, cardiology, rheumatology, hematology, respiratory diseases and gastrointestinal disorders. Anticancer therapies and possibilities of modulating the immune system are also comprehensively analysed.

Anti-infective drugs, including antiparasitics and antiprotozoals, are also included. Complex description is given to hormonal drugs, to the whole group of antidiabetics and to the osteoporosis treatment.

Separate chapters deal with the drugs used in dermatology and ophthalmology. In all chapters of the special section, emphasis is given on the explanation of the mechanism of action, which is considered to be the decisive factor for the selection and adjustment of the pharmacotherapeutic procedure in a particular clinical situation.

For all pharmaceutical drugs, baseline information on pharmacokinetics, major adverse effects, potential interactions, pharmacogenic effects, and clinical use is provided. The publication contains extensive image documentation and a large number of comprehensible tables that summarize and clarify the wide range of information provided.

Extensive monograph provides basic information about virtually all medicinal substances currently used in our country.
