The Carnivalesque against Entropy: Máirtín Ó Cadhain's Cré na Cille

Abstract

The article focuses on the concept of the grotesque in Máirtín Ó Cadhain's oeuvre. Using Bakhtin's theory of the carnivalesque it links it to the theme of the natural cycle and the threat of entropy.

On this basis, it offers a new interpretation of the voice of the "Trumpet of the Graveyard" in the novel Cré na Cille.
