Abstract

This study deals with the Old Prague Exposition at the Czechoslavic Ethnographic Exposition that took place at the Exhibition Grounds in Prague in 1895. Part of the exposition was reconstruction of the Malé náměstí (Little Square) at the turn of the 16th and 17th century.

Visualisation and reconstruction of Old Prague buildings was based primarily on a ground plan and two vedutas, although it also took into consideration the contemporary situation of the square and the period style. The objective of the study and of the research question is to describe, analyse and interpret the relation between historic vedutas employed as a source of inspiration for reconstruction of historic buildings and the actual construction of an architectural model of Old Prague.
