Aims : The aim of this paper is to present the process of entrance exams at the Faculty of Education, Charles University, with the overall description, including the specifics of individual fields of study. It will also present data collected from the students of the Czech language and literature in all study combinations as well as the first results of the analysis of the predictive validity done on this sample.
Predictive validity is under stood to be the ability of a test to predict future success and it is one of its important qualities. It is calculated through regression and correlation analysis.
The most used predictors are admission tests and high school grade point average. The influence of these two predictors is one of the most discussed topics.
Despite the existence of many definitions of academic success, the main criteria are the first year grade point average, retention to second year and graduation. Methodology : First, we made an overview of the entrance process at the Faculty of Education, Charles University.
Then we Works with the data of the students of the Czech language and literature in all study combinations. We were interested mainly in the final exam marks and points achieved in the entrance exams.
The overall number of collected and analyzed data is 96 from students in their second year of study. The predictive validity will be calculated using several statistical analyses.
The key predictors will include results of entrance exams and results of final state exam, especially of the common part of the exam. The criteria of Access will be represented by several values of grade point average according to carefully selected combinations of key subjects.
Conclusions : The data are presently (May 2018) being collected from students of the Czech language and literature, followed by data from students of other fields of study, such as Pedagogy and Psychology. The estimate of the final number of student sis approximately 200.
The statistical analyses will be done in the following months and their results will be presented at the conference ČAPV in September 2018.
