Serine proteinase inhibitors (serpins) inhibiting cysteine proteinases: an example of "cross-class" inhibition

Abstract

The communication summarizes serine proteinase-type inhibitors, evolutionary converted to inhibitors of a mechanistically different cysteine protease class. This phenomenon is explained by a similar mechanism of a stable enzyme-protease complex formation
