Remarks on the History of the Reformed Congregation Church Building at Prague-Královské Vinohrady

Abstract

The article describes the complicated building history of the new Protestant church at Prague-Vinohrady. The entire process began in the early 1890s.

Many designs for the new church were presented to the Council of Elders. There were at least five architects involved.

However, only a prayer house after a design of architect Sochor was built. The building did not suit the needs of the Congregation.

This contributed to already bad state of affairs within the Congregation. There was a bitter fight between the two rival groups in the Council of Elders.

Eventually, the faction led by architect Antonín Dvořák prevailed. The original building was sold and a new prayer house was built after his design in 1908.
