Abstract
The chapter focuses on Hegel's concept of sovereignty in his Elements of Philosophy of Right. The problem of sovereignty is presented as identical with the problem of unity.
The chapter distinguishes three aspects of unity of the state. This differentiation serves Hegel in his attempt to reconcile the tension between the ideal and the empirical aspect of sovereign power.
