In the older and contemporary literature, the hypothesis about the stay of Romans in the territory of the center of Bratislava is repeated in various forms. Such (sometimes "romantic") ideas have been found by the authors since the Renaissance.

The current assumptions about "Roman Bratislava" are based on older information, especially of Tivadar Ortvay (1843 - 1916), who demonstrated the Roman residence in the city center with archaeological findings. In the period after Ortvay, numerous interpretations were made about the Roman station in Bratislava (Faust, Ondrouch, Dobias, Eisner, Pelikan, Mencl, Pichler and others).

The report documents historiography of the issue, evaluates older historical interpretations in contrast with or in line with the latest findings from archaeological research.
