Abstract

The Orlice River Region encloses various landscapes, from wet meadows up to the Orlice Mountains. As a model region, the District of Rychnov nad Kněžnou is presented here with 101 sites of the Lusatian Urnfields (Reinecke BC/BD - HD/LtA); contemporary cemeteries, hillforts and metal hoards are added to the map for better orientation.

The diagram shows the development of material basis (newly identified sites after decades). From the distribution of sites, two settlement clusters can be seen, 1) around Dobruška and Opočno, related with the settlement zone along the Labe nad Metuje rivers north from Hradec Králové, with superiority of Late Bronze Age sites, 2) a rather isolated enclave with a center in Kostelec nad Orlicí, where in the latest times more Iron Age sites were discovered.
