Abstract
The lecture demonstrated that although Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics finds its basis in the historical finitude of all understanding, it nevertheless remains a transcendental philosophy. It did so through an interpretation of Gadamer's central ontological thesis: Being which can be understood is language.
