Art and Politics in the Age of the World-picture

Abstract

The paper presents elaboration of Gianni Vattimo's analysis of the ontological status of human existence and art in the "age of world-picture" (Heidegger), when all metaphysical conceptions of reality collapsed and "only innumerous narratives remained". It puts a question mark over the narrative argumentation and the very concept of plurality as a basis for the political discussion.

I consider the possibility of the non-subversive interaction of different political positions, responsible work with narratives and utilize also subtle insights present in the ontological based political philosophy of Jan Patočka for that purpose.
