Abstract

The common project of Šimon Brejcha and Martin Velíšek SPACE represents a journey from two directions to one destination - space. Paradoxically, what is the starting point for one is the end of the journey for the other and vice versa. Šimon Brejcha works with spatial constructions which he actively "flattens" to create a printing matrix.

The printing process itself works as a two-dimensional reminder of the original state, but is enriched with the rhythm of lines and surfaces inherent to graphic art. It is a journey from space to two-dimensional plane.

Martin Velíšek starts with a flat, two-dimensional space. On mostly white intact surface he creates lines by making many small pencil strokes.

Tiny embossing interventions then, in contrast with the lines, strengthen or diminish the impression of space. His journey then is from two-dimensional plane to space.
