Combination treatment of hypertension, especially the administration of drugs affecting the renin-angiotensin aldosterone system, calcium channel blockers and diuretics, in fixed combinations, is the gold standard of treatment and its severe forms. Due to the different mechanisms of action of the individual compounds, these antihypertensive combinations have a significant additive and synergistic antihypertensive effect leading to a marked decrease in blood pressure and a lower incidence of adverse effects of individual components.
