hepatic veins. We describe a case report of a 31-year-old woman with Budd-Chiari syndrome, chronic occlusion of the hepatic veins and portal vein thrombosis.
The background of thrombosis was thrombophilic state (factor V Leiden mutation in a heterozygous state) and mainly polycythaemia vera (discovered by bone marrow examination). Myeloproliferative diseases, especially polycythaemia vera is a common risk factor for thrombosis of splanchnic veins, particularly in young women.
Procoagulant state of the patient was demonstrated by the development of the central catheter-related deep vein thrombosis of femoral vein during anticoagulation with vitamin K antagonist. Patient was switched to low-molecular-weight heparin and finally we used rivaroxaban.
