L2 Translation and its Role in the Training of University Students of Translation Studies

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2018

Abstract

I investigate the role of L2 (or non-native) translation in university training as well as in the translation industry in the Czech Republic, one of many countries with a language of limited diffusion. I analyse the status of L2 translation in the training of university students of Translation Studies and describe the principal results of a survey aimed at assessing the quality of L2 translation.

It is likely that professional translation carried out by non-native translators will continue in the Czech context, but it is important to raise awareness of the risks associated with L2 translation with all stakeholders.
