The use of transfer vibration through spine in healthy adolescent volunteers

Abstract

In this paper we worked with four healthy volunteers in the adolescent age. We observed the stiffness and damping of the spine.

That was measured by using a method of transfer vibration through the spine (TVS). Furthermore, we observed the relations between the maximum static flexion of the thoracic spine and parameters gained from TVS method.

TVS examines the transfer of vibration through the spine from C7 to S1 in the prone position. During forced excitation of C7 in anterioposteriorním direction there is dominant transfer of vibration throughout the spine in the same direction.

This paper shows that the forced vibration of C7 the vertebrae Th10 is the most vibrating segment. Between maximum static flexion of the thoracic spine and spinal stiffness and damping measured by TVS method there has indicated weak trend toward correlation of Th 10.

The correlation coefficient is 0.25, which is a critical value for 30% confidence level. Increase oscillation of vertebrae Th10 we interpreted it as increasing the flexibility between the vertebrae.

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the application of the method TVS in the differential diagnosis of functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
