The Independent State and Humanist Ideals: Masaryk's Secular Reformation as a Model Solution to the Situation in 1918

Abstract

The author discusses the idea that with the creation of Czechoslovakia Masaryk achieved the political fulfilment of the humanist state. He is looking for parallels between Masaryk's "cultural-political Protestantism" and German cultural protestantism of the 19th century as well as between Masaryk's (Evangelical) intelligence and German Bildungsbürgertum.
