The Diary of an Introspector

Publication |
2018

Abstract

The book attempts a non-traditional 'first-person' view of human experience and develops a specific method, called 'introspection plus," for this purpose. It does not recognize the traditional distinction between an introspecting subject and the researcher.

Instead, the introspector focuses on his or her own momentary snap-experiences within their immediate temporal horizon. Examples are visual phenomena appearing in spontaneous micro-dreams, as well as in fleeting glances.

On the theoretical side, the essay is relevant to the analytical as well as the phenomenological tradition in philosophy although the part played by phenomenology is more substantial.
