Abstract
John's Gospel was, besides the epistles of Paul, the most esteemed biblical writing of Martin Luther. The article surveys the expositions of the Fourth Gospel in the commentaries published in the early years of the reformation and on samples examines how its text was interpreted by the reformation exegets.
