Abstract

The aim of the study was to describe the physiological profile (aerobic and anaerobic fitness, force disposition, reactivity and health status) in a pilot study of volunteers from the professional bodyguards of the Police of the Czech Republic (n = 21, aged 28.6 to 54.5 r). Professional bodyguards can be considered as individuals exposed to stress and related health risks.

Anaerobic performance in bodyguards accounted for 97-110% of norms and aerobic fitness of 126% of the norms, muscle strength parameters corresponded to 120-124% of the standard, reaction time for visual and auditory stimulus was normal, total cholesterol levels were normal, but blood pressure values were in 29 % of volunteers were higher than norms (systolic BP above 140 torr or diastolic BP above 90 torr). In the case of personal bodyguards similarly to the population, the aerobic and anaerobic fitness decreases with increasing age, and the increased body fat is negatively reflected on the indicators of aerobic fitness, on the other hand the personal bodyguards exhibited positive active lifestyle which characterizes 4 to 18 hours of physical activity per week.
