Manuel Teles da Silva and his relations to Portugal and its overseas territories through his library and archives

Abstract

This article aims to analyse the personal library and a part of the correspondence of Manuel Teles da Silva (1696 Lisbon - 1771 Vienna), the founder of the Austrian branch of the lineage of Counts Silva Tarouca, and to demonstrate that in spite of his activities in imperial army and at the Viennese court he did not lose interest in affairs in his country and its colonies.
