Graphene represents a unique two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterial with a great potential. Most of the available data represents an oxidised form of graphene, however less is known about "pristine" forms graphene like platelets and sheets (GPs) which are created during manufacturing.

Workers are exposed to these materials mainly through inhalation. Alveoli deposition is followed by macrophage uptake and/or persistence in intercellular spaces.

Physical interaction with macrophages or other cells may lead to inflammation, disruption of cell metabolism and tissue damage. This study represents preliminary data of possible interactions between two different commercially available GPs and selected monocyte/macrophage cell lines.
