Attosecond electron pulses, interaction of free electrons with light

Abstract

In this contribution we summarize the recent development in the field of generation of ultrashort electron pulses. Attosecond pulse durations are achieved using compression of electrons via their inellastic interaction with light fields.

These pulses will serve for ultrafast imaging of dynamical processes in nanostructures.
