Abstract

We outline briefly the quasiparticle formulation of a microscopic multiphonon approach known as equation of motion phonon method and discuss its application to the neutron rich semi-magic O-20. Our calculation emphasizes the crucial role of the two-phonon configurations, responsible for establishing an almost one to one correspondence between theoretical and experimental energy levels and for fragmenting the dipole strength, in qualitative agreement with the data.

In particular, the fragmentation yields two dipole levels below the neutron threshold which correspond to the two peaks recently observed.
