The anthology being published on the ninetieth anniversary of the birth of the author, screenwriter and dramaturge Ota Hofman (1928-89). The individuality of Hofman's later work, which had already been released by the time of the revolutionary political events and cultural changes after 1989, has received very little critical recognition.
It is recalled in the contribution from the chief editor of the anthology, Jana Čeňková. Unfortunately, 1989 was the year in which Hofman prematurely died, and he has gradually been lost to literary memory. Čeňková's text interprets the film Octopus from the Čertovka (1987) as a playful, yet serious, witness to the times from the perspective of its young hero.
The same spirit is apparent in Hofman's collection of stories, Návrat na planetu Mikymauz [Return to Planet Mickey Mouse] (1989), which harks back to the realistic approach of the so-called 'new wave'.
