Abstract
The collective monograph brings together texts by Czech academics on numerous themes from Brazilian history, culture and politics. The project did not aspire at exhaustive summary of all the relevant problems, but rather of introducing various approaches to specific topics (in the field of culture, not only literature and fine arts, but also music and folklore; in the field of political economy, also such factors as religion are taken into account).
The necessity of approaching historical and cultural studies from a wide perspective is also accentuated in the introductory interview with Walnice Nogueira Galvão. Separate section is dedicated to the relations between Brazil and the Czech Lands/Central Europe in various historical periods.
