Women as Readers, Women as the Subject of Early English Devotional Literature (Especially in the Example of Ancrene Wisse)

Abstract

Focusing on three Early medieval devotional texts for English recluses, the paper explores how the fact that these texts were composed primarily for women is reflected in their formal, stylistic and metaphorical spheres.
