Arthroscopy of elbow - survey of surgical procedures

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2007

Abstract

Arthroscopy of the elbow was developed recently and became the regular method for diagnostics and therapy of the intraarticular derrangement of the elbow joint. It is used as a special miniinvasive arthroscopic surgical technique.

The range of surgical procedures is relatively wide, combining both diagnostic and therapeutic indications. The elbow arthroscopy has been performed at the orthopaedic department of the authors in various indications such as osteochondritis dissecans, chondropathy and also for traumatologic and posttraumatic reasons.

For the evaluation of the results in the arthroscopy of elbow, we use clinical and laboratory scales, incl. MRI examination.

The authors foresee the future of the arthroscopy of the elbow joint especially in treatment of severe intraarticular disorders or fractures, posttraumatic deformities and in osteochondral defects. In these cases it is necessary to respect the anatomical approaches to the joint.
