Observation of an Excited Omega(-) Baryon

Publication at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics |

Abstract

Using data recorded with the Belle detector, we observe a new excited hyperon, an Omega*(-) candidate decaying into Xi K-0(-) and Xi K--(S)0 with a mass of 2012.4 +/- 0.7(stat) +/- 0.6(syst) McV/c(2) and a width of Gamma = 6.4(-2.0)(+2.5)(stat) +/- 1.6(syst) MeV. The Omega*(-) is seen primary in gamma(1S), gamma(2S), and gamma(3S) decays.
