Publication at Faculty of Education |
2018

Abstract

The article presents the first outputs of complex discursive research on both terms and approaches of the live interpretation that have been conceptualized within professional heritage discourse for the last decade. It focuses especially on linguistic and historical context of the term 'interpretation' in order to reveal the paradigm shift in the field of heritage management and care that underpins also Czech translations of the term.

The research goal is to map both discourses and practises within heritage field. Therefore, not only normative and theoretical texts but also statements of those who participate in heritage interpretation have been analysed.

The analysis of international Charta, language dictionaries, European as well as Czech interpretation handbooks, and historical sources is presented in this article. The study aims to set up a starting point for wider mapping of interdisciplinary discussion that influences actual trends in the process of professionalization of heritage guides as well as development of the brand new profession of heritage educators in the Czech Republic.
