Abstract

The article analysis the demographic situation in the Czech Republic in 2017 and sets it in the context of demographic trends in the past decade. The study describes the development of individual components of population change and the effects they have on population size and the age and marital structure.

The population of the Czech Republic grew as a result of the positive balance of international migration and positive natural change in 2017, and the total fertility rate and marriage rates increased as well. Life expectancy at birth for men and women stagnated.

The total abortion rate also stagnated, although the induced abortion rate slightly decreased. The total divorce rate increased after three years of decline.
