Acute ischaemic stroke (AIS) is a devastating disease with high mortality and even higher permanent disability. While systemic fibrinolysis has been the first-line therapy for the past two decades, endovascular mechanical thrombectomy (EMT) now represents a new standard of care in specific subsets of AIS patients.

However, the availability of EMT varies widely across Europe and better access is needed.
