Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is one of the main causes of chronic morbidity and mortality worldwide. An increase in the prevalence of this disease is anticipated with regard to the risk factors cause and the aging of the population.

Experts are interested in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease especially for its effects on health and negative economic outcomes. In the field of emphysema the procedures are to a considerable degree shifting from surgical to endoscopic treatment.

Many recent studies document its positive impact on functional parameters of the lungs as well as on the level of physical performance. These patients should receive pulmonary rehabilitation, which may be a component of the comprehensive treatment process included in before and after intervention care.

Properly integrated pulmonary rehabilitation in the treatment process by endoscopic volumetric performance can lead to faster recovery, better adaptation and compensation mechanisms. The combination of endoscopic pulmonary volume reduction with pulmonary rehabilitation expands the possibilities of complex treatment for patients with the main aims such as increasing the tolerance of physical load, reducing dyspnoea and improving the quality of life.
