AED as Motivation for Membership in Volunteer Fire Brigade and Problems with its Usage

Abstract

Motivation of potential new volunteer firefighters can be difficult, but to the community it is advantageous to keep an effective volunteer fire brigade. The ownership of automated external defibrillator (AED) can be pursued as a motivation for recruiting new members.

For this reason we focused on this issue. We used a non-standardized questionnaire to cover main problems connected with the ownership and usage of AED.

We addressed volunteer fire brigades in the Central Bohemia Region. For the community, it is beneficial to have an available AED.

However, in order to use it appropriately, we need motivated volunteers willing to do so. A functional and effective volunteer fire brigade can have a positive impact on managing emergencies (especially fires).

Our findings may increase the motivation of new volunteers in fire brigades.
