Abstract
The study deals with Max Brod as a significant personage and his role in cultural Zionism, a trend with which the young generation of Prague German writers identified. These writers later gathered under the so called Prague Circle.
The study puts forward the role of Martin Buber for these Prague German-writing authors and shows the new cultural orientation. In the second part, the study deals with Max Brod as the mediator of Czech culture in German language milieu, mainly in the area of literature (Jaroslav Hašek) and music (Leoš Janáček).
