Abstract
The paper maps Zábrana's translations of detective fiction through various paratexts (epilogues, articles etc) and also in the context of the changing reception of detective fiction during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. It uses the concept of game to analyze various strategies Zábrana employed in to defend his translations when faced with the ideological critique of this genre.
