Natural Science Research Activities for the Development of Interdisciplinary Thinking in Chemistry

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2018

Abstract

The study focuses on modelling students' ideas, building and creating science-based pupils' concepts associated with the use of mathematical apparatus. We repeatedly conducted surveys among students of the last years of grammar schools and students of the first year of achelor study of chemistry for a deeper understanding of the thinking processes in solving interdisciplinary problems, based on the combination of mathematics and chemistry and other natural sciences.

The research was based on the comparison of skills to actively use science knowledge with the application of mathematical principles and models of thinking. Based on results of our research, the suggestions and materials were designed to solve problematic parts of selected areas.

These materials should support an interdisciplinary approach to teaching chemistry and other science subjects with an emphasis on mathematical principles. An example of one of the topics is a part of this paper.
