Abstract

Young age of injured and high rate of permanent sequelae are typical for acetabular fractures. After standardization of treatment management, centralization of care in level one trauma department, the number of complication was in steady state: imperfect reduction with subsequent deformity 15-20%, aseptic necrosis of the femoral head 6-9%, non-union or implant (fixation hardware) failure 1%.

The result of the treatment of acetabular fractures depends on the quality of the reconstruction of the joint surface and subsequent complications. Both are dependent on the fracture type and treatment modality.

Not every bad result means that it is a complication and, on the contrary, that is always the cause of the fracture type. Some types of fractures are primarily associated with poor results.

Complex anatomical structures are associated with relatively frequent neurological injuries and imperfect reduction and fixation.
