Illocution and the utterance form

Abstract

The paper deals with the relation of a sentence and its (potential) illocutionary value. The conclusion is that the illocutionary value of an utterance (pragmalinguistic interpretation of a sentence in discourse) cannot be generated by formal means of a language.
