Abstract

The chapter is an epilogue to the legendary monograph by Ien Ang Watching Dallas. The epilogue rehearses the concept of media audiences underlaying Ang's research and compares it to the ways the audiences are envisioned after the digital turn.

The chapter presents the pivotal question: How can we explain the fact that the concept of active audiences had been formed before the truly active audiences (in the sense of online produsers) emerged?
