The iconoclasts' erroneous gnoseological reasoning that Christ's humanity was some sort of an ideal entity capable of being intelectually contemplated and therefore, ineffable, just as any other abstract ideal notion, inevitably led them to seek a mediator between Divinity and bodily corporeality. In support of this thinking, the iconoclasts employed the Origenistic Christology of Leontius of Byzantium.
