Abstrakt
This chapter in the collective monograph is focused on the shipping on the Bohemian part of the biggest Middle European river, namely in the area between Hradec Králové (Königingrätz) and Mělník (Melnik). The authors examine not only the changes of the shipping in this region in 19th and 20th century, but also the problems of the technical evolution, regulation of the river, influence of the technical intelligentsia as well as the beginnings of the landscape protection movement, which was connected with the scholars educated at the university in Prague.
