Organized workshop served to inform the professional community about TAČR project "Key literacy skills for elementary school pupils", on the basis of the standardization research which led to creating standards for the key literacy skills for elementary school pupils (1st grade elementary school). We expressed thought goals of the project, current condition of solutions in specific areas of literacy (prerequisites for reading, decoding, comprehending, family environment, school environment, teacher's approach) and the principles of new diagnostic approaches, corresponding with foreign trends.
Using them, we try to solve the current deficit of existing diagnostic tools in the Czech Republic - absence of emphasis on the aspect of comprehension (reading with comprehension, listening with comprehension) which is the basis of functional literacy.
